Hidden deep within the caverns of the Mojave Desert lies a territorial vampire clan. As descendants of Europe, this banded group of migrating ancients remain hidden from the outside world for preservation of their species.
In a remotely quiet area, paranormal activity runs rampant as top-secret subsidiary military air force bases of the Area 51 project are spread amongst the barren desert land.
Once a year, if the annual winter rains chooses to appear, it is a sure sign that the spring poppy fields are about to go into bloom.
Setting forth a time of preparation, the vampires get ready for the spring harvest. Adding to their winter diet, a daily regime of specified needs gets them ready to endure the sunlight. An herbal concoction of eyebright and stinging nettle tea is consumed to prevent the sting of sunlight in their eyes. A cup of carrot juice each day adds a protective dose of beta-carotene to induce the synthesis of melanin that gives their skin a tawny glow of weatherproofing. A handful of sunflower seed kernels are added into their nightly meal to add a protective oil barrier to prevent dryness and parched skin. This recipe came from ancient folklore and proves it’s natural ability.
The knowledge of nature’s bounty as the ultimate provider of medicine is part of their heritage. In this case, the poppy bulb is an opiate used wisely in healing, initiation, and transcendence. The poppy flower is carefully compounded into temple incense, cosmetics, and perfume. The poppy seeds are used as a spice in food, added to wild bird feed, and used as an exfoliate in cosmetics. The stems are made into a compost for rich planting soil.
A high tech surveillance camera from a military helicopter captures a female vampire gathering her spring harvest. The military government does not in anyway interfere with the vampires. They only observe from a distance and take notes to better understand their ancient wisdom hidden from the common people.
The Vampire habitat is a secret territory that spans from Mojave through Tehachapi and ends in the small hidden town of Keene. About 31 miles down the road from Keene is the nearest big city which is Bakersfield. The Vampires stay away from popular spots to blend in and safely maintain their undisclosed identity. Their main mode of transportation is hopping the underground helix railway system of Tehachapi Loop. Their main source of agricultural power is from high tech massive windmills that sprawl widely on the tops of the mountain ridgelines. The clan is seldom seen during the day unless tending their gardens and harvesting their seed. They are quite active at night yet blend into the darkness of the atmospheric conditions that the earth holds within the hushed wilderness until the break of dawn.
