Disko Anksiyete takes one back to the 80’s in more ways than just one. In addition to a hefty Sisters of Mercy influence, there is a very strong new wave influence, e.g. A Flock of Seagulls and Nena. The album does not, however, recycle old material. She Past Away keeps the old elements sounding new and fresh and relevant, as well as insanely dance-able.

Wisborg actually delivers a “gothic” project that would make sense being grouped with the early greats like the Sisters of Mercy and Fields of the Nephilim – and that with a front man under 25! Classic goth-rock, also called post-punk, is bass-driven but Wisborg achieves the effect by playing the low strings on heavily distorted electric guitars and/or with keyboards rather than a bass guitar. I have to say that shooting this movie in black and white was a stroke of genius. It definitely adds a lot to the whole atmosphere of the film. While I don’t know anything about cinematography (hope I spelled that right) I can safely say that Angel-A is visually fantastic, and tres chic.

For me, this is the sort of film that is best interpreted emotionally. It’s a very atmospheric work, and I’d recommend just losing yourself in all of its wonderful strangeness. I wasn’t bothered too much by not fully understanding the story behind it, because it still managed to arouse all sorts of feelings inside of me. I didn’t quite understand these feelings- they were just as much a mystery to me as the film itself -but that’s just what made them so incredible to experience.
