This annual, multi-genre convention, filled with over 45,000-50,000 con-goers occurs between late February to early March and is held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida, USA.

The feel of the place was oppressive, the sunlight stopped at the window panes like it was afraid to enter. It left a murky unwholesome feeling inside me. But I shook it off and looked instead at a voyeur’s paradise. I got to go through some poor guy’s life and poke around and judge him! How awesome is that?

GATHERING STEAM

After 20 years in the local Goth scene here in San Diego, I began to notice some of my friends exploring a new (to me) subculture called “Steampunk.” My own firsthand experience was attending San Diego’s first Steampunk convention last year: The Gaslight Gathering Steampunk and Victoriana Convention. Although Steampunk tends to browns, brass and bowlers – black is always in fashion and people had clearly adapted some of the Gothic attire to this alternate subculture.

Thunderbird Encounter

An avian noted for it’s size and strength it can easily snare a child in its razor sharp talons. In some stories it has been know to grab a buffalo calf then fly away, outlined by flashes of lightning and the noise of thunderous wing beats along with the terrified scream of its prey.
